Highland Dancing is centuries old, it began amond the Scottish clans and was extended to militaru recruitment and celebration after battle. Today, it is mainly used in competition, entertainment, and for historucal cultural reasons.
Dancer begin the basic skills, developing more complex steps over time. More advanced dancers are ab;e to compete as individuals at regional and national Highland Games.
The Columbus Highland Dancers (CHD) was organized in 1982. The group is dedictaed to preverving the dance traditions of Scotland. Scottish dance is very athletic form of folk dance, requiring strong commitment to work at becoming physically fit. Most often dancers begin during elementary and middle school years. Students muct be dedicated.
Our local group is quite active in cultural demostractions throughout the Central Ohio area, as well as public and private performances.
